  2. D2: Ayutthaya - Kanchanaburi

Theme: "Little Explorer in Ayutthaya" - Ayutthaya Historical Park; A trip to the temple; Make a Kalaton boat

After breakfast, we will visit the Ayutthaya Historical Park in Ayutthaya. More commonly known as the "Big City" in China, Ayutthaya was the former capital of the Ayutthaya dynasty from the 14th to 18th centuries and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Ayutthaya means "eternal victory" in Thai, but this exquisite and beautiful city fell to war and was destroyed by the Burmese army.

Today, the city was rebuilt by the Thai people with a new life, reaching a population of one million by the end of the 17th century. Many foreign visitors are shocked by its size and population density, and its close proximity has become a feature of the city.

As the former capital city, the grand City has magnificent temples and an advanced canal network, which greatly facilitated the development of transportation and trade in the urban area. Our first stop today is the ancient palace Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, which became a magnificent temple after the relocation of the capital and the prototype for Bangkok's Jade Buddha Temple. It once housed a 16m-high gold-plated Buddha, which was destroyed by the Burmese army.

Next, we will explore the rich and valuable collections of Wat Yai Chaimongkol. It is a veritable "Buddhist museum" with a large collection of Buddha statues. Wat Mahathat, a temple of nature, is now uninhabited by monks, where dense vegetation and stone Buddha statues watch the passing of time.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we will head to Kanchanburi, a small town about 2 hours drive in western Thailand. There, you will have the opportunity to learn about Thailand's traditional folk customs, and let little babies make beautiful Krathong boats, letting hope and blessings spread along the water.

Kalatong is a small traditional Thai raft, about a hand wide, often made from a banana trunk and decorated with folded banana leaves, candles and incense cones. On the night of the full moon, it is customary to lay down the kalaton by the river, symbolizing the abandonment of all suffering and the beginning of a new life. There are also people who float their hair and nails on the Kalaton, symbolizing the change of bad personality and habits. Many Thais believe that releasing karatong will bring good luck - it is also a tribute to Voramehoka, the god of sleep, for good luck.
