Japan Kumano Kodo Hiking 1 6D

Duration6 Days
Difficulty 3 stars
For thousands of years, the majestic Kii mountainous region of Kumano, with its ancient forests, spectacular waterfalls, and long rivers, has been regarded as a spiritual sanctuary in Japan. The earliest pilgrims arrived at this remote and secluded mountain sanctuary around the Heian period, including emperors and nobles. Like the Santiago Trail, the Kumano Kodo has more than one path, and this time we focus on the Nakabe Road, a mossy stone staircase paved in the greenery, encircling the three mountains of Kumano, and is a pilgrimage path for worshippers. It boasts historical monuments and steles as well as hot springs and waterfalls blessed by nature. The old path is intertwined and leads to various important Buddhist shrines, forming a unique network of pilgrimage routes covering the southern area of the Kii Peninsula and southern Osaka, with picturesque scenery of green mountains and rivers along the way.
