  2. D2: Nanjing - Hongshan Zoo - Nanjing-Nanjing Geological Museum; Departure or Extension Program

Morning: Going to the zoo is a serious matter, and going to the Hongshan Zoo is a happy serious matter.
This crazy Zootopia in the ancient capital of six dynasties may be the best zoo in all of China, where animals are the masters and humans are the most insignificant beings.
You will also find that this is a zoo full of imagination, from the animals in the stadium to the wild animals in the park, Red Hill seems to want to do more than focus on the animal welfare of the captive animals.

How far can the imagination of a zoo go?
We will visit venues such as the Native Species Conservation Area, Gaoli Gong, and Gondwana Exhibition area, observe the natural behavior of amazing and great animals, analyze the excellent venue design of Hongshan, and analyze the significance of emphasizing animal welfare and abundance.

After this trip you will understand that the zoo should not be a place of entertainment, but a place of culture and education. You will also understand that the value of animal display analyzed by Hedigle in "People and Animals in Zoos" is "both to clarify the biological reasons for the attraction of animals to humans, and to protect the due value of captive animals as species and to impress people."
"When you leave Red Mountain and think of Red Mountain again, I hope you remember that this is a good place where animals are happy and people are kind."

In the afternoon, we will visit a low-key ancient museum in Nanjing - the Nanjing Geological Museum.

In 1935, to protect geological treasures from the ravages of war, the former Central Geological Survey of Beijing relocated to Nanjing. Through the dedicated efforts of geologists and architectural experts, a beautiful and elegant exhibition hall was established in the Jiangnan region, which is today's Nanjing Geological Museum.

With a history spanning eighty-eight years, Nanjing has not only become a crucial foundation for the development of geology in China but has also preserved countless precious geological and fossil collections. These include the first dinosaur skeleton assembled by the Chinese, a 26-meter-long king of petrified wood, and the skull of the largest land mammal, the Paraceratherium. Particularly noteworthy are the ancient human and other prehistoric mammal fossils from Zhoukoudian in Beijing. The Nanjing Geological Museum holds the third-largest collection of Zhoukoudian fossils in the country, surpassed only by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing and the Zhoukoudian Museum. Finally, through the Nanjing Tangshan Man and its coexisting prehistoric creatures, we can decipher the ecological secrets of ancient Nanjing from hundreds of thousands of years ago.

The evening activity ends and you can return freely.
