义县，古称义州、宜州。义县从燕秦设郡、汉初立县已有2200多年历史，古老的土地见证了五燕皇朝和大辽萧氏的崛起兴衰，绘就了多民族融合交汇的恢弘画卷，孕育了佛道交相辉映的历史文化。
北镇市，旧称北宁市，地处医巫闾山东麓，唐朝玄宗年间封医巫闾山为广宁公，“广宁”之称源于此时。医巫闾山，今简称闾山，医巫闾山历史悠久，由华夏几千年的文明积淀而成。相传舜时把全国分为十二州，每州各封一座山作为一州之镇，闾山被封为北方幽州的镇山。周时封闾山为五岳五镇之一。
